The ANH presents a new proposal on nomenclature and borders of some sedimentary basins in Colombia before the national and international geological community and particularly the oil industry. The main changes that are suggested in this proposal are:
1. The inclusion of the "Amagá Basin", given that it is a sedimentary area with the rich levels of organic matter and coal, promising for gas exploration.
2. The exclusion of the "Pacific Basin" given that most of it is comprised of the Serranía del Baudó, a non-sedimentary region.
3. The grouping of the three basins of the southern region of the country into two prospective areas, which are separated by a high structure in a N-NW direction: The Caguán-Putumayo basin to the W and Vaupés-Amazonas to the E
4. The extension of the marine basins from the Pacific to the border between the South America and Nazca plates
5. The extension of the marine basins from the Caribbean to the front of the de formation of the so-called "South Caribbean Deformed Belt"
6. The inclusion of the Colombia basin in the deep Caribbean
7. The definition of the Deep Colombian Pacific basin to the W of the current subduction zone of the Pacific
Thus, the new proposal comprises 23 sedimentary basins.
